1 “Who Are You?” The Who, 1978

2 Why did I show you this? Write your prediction on your paper.
Share your prediction with your partner.

3 Consider the question “Who Are You?”
What makes you you? (what is important in your life, what are your interests, where do you “come from”, what inspires you…

4 -fav. foods/music/movies -sports/hobbies/interests
Create a diagram, list of words, web, whatever… representing who you are. Create different areas to show different sides of yourself -fav. foods/music/movies -sports/hobbies/interests -family background/members -place of birth/places lived -ambitions/goals/inspirations -beliefs…

5 Give us the good stuff! Go through your list of ideas and highlight the ones that you think reveal the most about you. Telling us that you like pizza is great, but this doesn’t reveal much about who you are as a person.

6 Check out the handout.

7 Thesis statements A thesis statement explains what you will discuss in EACH body paragraph. The thesis should appear in the intro. paragraph. (Probably at/near the end.) An example: The dog is the most superior of all pets because of its loyalty (body para. #1), companionship (body para. #2), and ability to protect its owner. (body para. #3) Now, find, underline, and label the thesis statement in the intro. Paragraph of my sample autobiography.

8 Introductory Sentences
An intro sentence lets the reader know what the paragraph will discuss. Ex. In the future I hope to do more travelling as I love to see different parts of the world and experience different cultures. This sentence tells the reader that the paragraph will be about travelling.

9 The following paragraph is mixed up
The following paragraph is mixed up! Put it in a logical order so that there is a topic sentence at the beginning. (don’t write it all down, just decide “the best” order of the colours) I don’t even like my feet, which are extremely creepy looking, much less those of some stranger. Feet can be very stinky and often have warts and fungus growing on them. Feet are probably the grossest part of the human body. Shoes and socks were created for a very good reason…to cover up those nasty things we call feet.

10 Check out the assessment handout
The self assessment sheet has a list of all the things you NEED to do in order to successfully complete this assignment. Use this as a guide. The peer and teacher assessments will be done at a later date.

11 Go for it! Due date?
