1 A PASSION TO KNOW AND LOVE CHRIST
Nick Peterson

2 Philippians 1:18-21 (ESV) 18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice, 19 for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, 20 as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

3 Philippians 1:22-25 (ESV) 22 If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. 23 I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. 24 But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith

4 “The people of God ought to be the happiest people in all the wide world! People should be coming to us constantly and asking the source of our joy and delight.” - A. W. Tozer

5 Philippians 3:7-9 (ESV) 7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—

6 Philippians 4:11-13 (ESV) “I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

8 Discussion Questions:
What stood out to you most from the message or the Bible verses and why? What are the things that tend to rob you of joy, happiness, and contentment? Do you agree that joy/happiness in the Lord should be one of the main things that describes a Christian? Why or why not? Whether you are just beginning college, are somewhere in the middle, or are nearing the end, what is an area of your life you would like to honor Jesus in?
