Assignment: Compose an argument of between 1000 and 1250 words that synthesizes a minimum of 4 of the sources provided for one debate on the website. The Argument: You may choose any of the Room for Debate topics, listed categorically at the bottom right of the website, for this synthesis assignment. Use the question posed as your driving question. It is your job to choose a side to defend. You will develop your argument using support provided. You will also acknowledge the opposition using your own ideas in conjunction with the opposing perspectives provided on the website. Remember, the goal is to offer your argument, not to be merely a supporter of others’ arguments. The debate must have occurred in The Construction: Your argument will follow the pattern below as it best fits: Background information that states the issue being discussed Offer your point-of-view (I Say) on the answer to the problem with support from the sources listed. Acknowledge the opposing side (They Say) using your ideas plus the sources listed. Offer a rebuttal to the opposing side using your best argument strategies. Please consult They Say/I Say in order that you include the expectations of argument.
