2 Goal of the new biogeo process
“significantly contribution to achievement of Favourable Conservation Status’ by helping Member States to manage Natura 2000 as a coherent ecological network” Atlantic Seminar - first step fits into a wider framework of actions

3 Goal of the new biogeo process
determination of the key management issues for Natura 2000 that need to be addressed to reach the 2020 Biodiversity Headline Target (Target 1) set a conservation agenda for the future by discussing the main management solutions to the agreed overview of the main conservation problems for the biogeographical region feed into the different practical and policy initiatives: (PAFs) Ops, management plans, restoration agenda, Green Infrastructure etc.

4 NGO contribtution inform the wider EHF network about the process
Organize representation of NGOs in boreal process input to Background and Seminar documents NGO coordinator for the Atlantic and Alpine processes Thank you for support of the EC, Atlantic MS and contractor!

5 What worked well Boreal Habitats Sheets & Background Document
Invest in high quality Habitats Sheets & BD Well prepared Atlantic prep meeting Well prepared & facilitated meetings Motivated, well prepared group chairs more pre-cooked solutions, actions in the seminar? Networking on boreal level established Follow up with networking Good mix of policy and practitioners in meetings Keep fair involvement of NGOs and other stakeholders (Atlantic) focus also outside the N2000

Improvement needed: II. Contribution to 2020 Target Establish clearer link to Biodiversity Target e.g. through prioritization, quantification at least one concrete networking and one non-networking type of action per habitat group agreed Get the commitment of MS on these before the seminar

Improvement needed: III. Procedures, working methods Improve the quality of documents Adoption of the final seminar document Decrease need for input, but make more out of it  NGOs: improve coordination among each other and with MS, EC
