4 Participate in the activity
Everyone will get a letter. As a class, we will spell two words, but not every letter will be used. (There is someone in the class who received an index card that said, “get the class to spell “Charlemagne unites.” Don’t show anyone the card.) Part of the way through the chaos, I put a crown on the head of the student with the index card and told the class that he/she had more information than they did.)

Uniting most of Western Europe under one government. (first time since Roman Empire). It was a Christian kingdom. It became known as Holy Roman Empire. He was crowned Emperor by the Pope. Pope had more authority. Made Charlemagne’s rule more accepted by the people.
