2. What is it?
ABCya! is a website that provides educational games and activities for school-aged children. All educational games are free and are modeled from primary grade lessons and enhanced to provide an interactive way for children to learn.

The games on the website are organized into grade levels from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, as well as into subject categories such as letters, numbers, and holidays. Additionally, many of the games meet standards associated with the Common Core State Standards Initiative.

Grade level lessons incorporate areas such as math and language arts while introducing basic computer skills. Many of the kindergarten and first grade activities are equipped with sound to enhance understanding.

Apple, The New York Times, Disney Family Fun Magazine, and Fox News have featured ABCya.com’s award-winning games and apps.

6. How I use it
I use ABCya with my first grade students primarily as a way to enhance my math lessons. The website provides students with an interactive and engaging way to better understand math concepts and to apply their knowledge in a way that motivates them. Plus, I am able to view their results or scores and monitor the progress of students needing intervention or enrichment.

7. How I use it
The games and activities on ABCya allow my first grade students to practice and master math concepts such as addition, counting coins, subtraction, and telling time. They also allow my students to work on and improve their skills in language arts concepts such as alphabetizing, identifying contractions, and spelling.

Besides incorporating the games and activities on ABCya into my math and language arts lessons, I also use the website as an incentive for positive behaviors. My first grade students are given the opportunity to play educational games at the end of the week as an option for Friday Fun.

9. How I use it
ABCya not only encourages my first grade students to become more proficient in basic computer skills, but provides them with opportunities to create, collaborate, and communicate as they develop their independence and fine motor skills.

11. SAMR Model
Substitution: Students use ABCya to show what they know through the use of fun math and literacy games instead of using traditional pencil and paper
Augmentation: Students demonstrate understanding of math concepts and apply them by playing math games that require them to solve addition or subtraction problems

Modification: Students have access to different levels of abilities. While some students are working on spelling words, others are working on letter identification. The games allow for differentiation through the access of different tasks with similar objectives
Redefinition: Students use ABCya as a homework practice tool

13. SAMR Model
According to how it is currently implemented, the ABCya website would fall on the Redefinition level of the SAMR Model, meaning that it is a transformation tool. It surpasses being an enhancement tool because it is implemented not only at school, but at home as well, serving as a practice tool for students. Parents and guardians have access to ABCya via my first grade class website and are encouraged to take advantage of it as an online resource for learning.
