CCNA 1 v3.1 Module 4 Cable Testing
2
Purpose of This PowerPoint This PowerPoint primarily consists of the Target Indicators (TIs) of this module in CCNA version 3.1. It was created to give instructors a PowerPoint to take and modify as their own. This PowerPoint is: NOT a study guide for the module final assessment. NOT a study guide for the CCNA certification exam. Please report any mistakes you find in this PowerPoint by using the Academy Connection Help link.

14
Noise in Time and Frequency Ampere's Law states that any electrical current is surrounded by a magnetic field.
15
Sources of Noise EMI [electromagnetic interference] Interference by electromagnetic signals that can cause reduced data integrity and increased error rates on transmission channels. RFI [radio frequency interference] The radio frequencies that create noise that interferes with information being transmitted across unshielded copper cabling. Nearby cables that carry data signals Laser noise at the transmitter or receiver of an optical signal
16
White Noise Noise that affects all transmission frequencies equally is called white noise
17
NarrowBand Noise Noise that only affects small ranges of frequencies is called narrowband interference.
18
Bandwidth Analog bandwidth typically refers to the frequency range of an analog electronic system. [Hz] Digital bandwidth measures how much information can flow from one place to another in a given amount of time. [bps - bit per second]

New Standard On June 20, 2002, the Category 6 (or Cat 6) addition to the TIA-568 standard was published. This new standard specifies the original set of performance parameters that need to be tested for Ethernet cabling as well as the passing scores for each of these tests. A quality cable tester is the Fluke DSP-LIA013 Channel/Traffic Adapter for Cat5e.
