Story of John in Matthew 11

Faith’s Design Faith: - Comes by hearing God’s Word Romans 10:17

Faith’s Design Faith: - Comes by hearing God’s Word - Brings us to Salvation Hebrews 11:6 Heb 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

Faith’s Design Faith: - Comes by hearing God’s Word - Brings us to Salvation - Sustains us in difficulties 1 Thessalonians 5:8 James 1:1-3 1Th 5:8 But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. Jas 1:2 ¶ Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Faith’s Design Faith: - Comes by hearing God’s Word - Brings us to Salvation - Sustains us in difficulties - Faith is not made in difficulty, it is hardened Heb 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. 1Th 5:8 But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. When We Are Weak Weakness in faith appears: When we are under trial When we are self-examining An example in Matthew 11:3-9 Mt 11:2 Now when John, while imprisoned, heard of the works of Christ, he sent word by his disciples 3 and said to Him, "Are You the Expected One, or shall we look for someone else?“ 4 Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and report to John what you hear and see: 5 the BLIND RECEIVE SIGHT and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the POOR HAVE THE GOSPEL PREACHED TO THEM. 6 "And blessed is he who does not take offense at Me.“ 9 "But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and one who is more than a prophet. 10 "This is the one about whom it is written, 'BEHOLD, I SEND MY MESSENGER AHEAD OF YOU, WHO WILL PREPARE YOUR WAY BEFORE YOU.' 11 "Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist!

Faith in the Wrong Things
The need for sincere faith – 1 Timothy 1:5 Faith should not be: In yourself – 1 Timothy 6:20-21 In circumstances – 1 Timothy 6:10-11 Not even in the church or brethren 1Ti 1:5 ¶ But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 11 But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.
12
Walking By Sight Faith is a way of life – 2 Corinthians 5:7 Are we walking by sight? Making decisions best for physical needs Seeking the physical way to perfection Despairing by what we see 2Co 5:6 Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord-- 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight— Too often we live by sight, making decisions in the best interests of our physical needs rather than our spiritual needs. Example: Despairing because it appears faith is in decline, success looks unlikely, etc.

Don’t Listen To Your Heart
The deception of emotion – Jeremiah 17:9 Faith is weakened when we listen: To self-doubt and down talk To self-aggrandizement To feelings or emotions - Jer 17:9 "The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; Who can understand it? Your faith may not even be weak if you are feeling down – emotions are not legitimate reflections of reality Joh 6:67 So Jesus said to the twelve, "You do not want to go away also, do you?" 68 Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. 69 "We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God."
14
Underlying Weak Faith Other faith factors – Hebrews 10:22-24 Faith is weakened when: Our hope is not strong Our love is not strong Heb 10:22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,

Solutions: Restoration
Changing ourselves – Revelation 2:4-5 We need to: Remember why we believed Repent of our weakness Do the deeds you did at first Re 2:4 'But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5 'Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place--unless you repent. You need to act in order to sustain faith
16
Solutions: Sharing Burdens
Changing ourselves – Galatians 6:1-2 We need to: Confess our weaknesses – James 5:16 Doubt is NOT a sin – 1 Kings 19 God welcomes questions Ga 6:1 ¶ Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. 2 Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ. Jas 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

When Faith is Weak We all have weak moments - We need to strengthen faith BEFOREHAND - We need to act to restore ourselves - We need to use God’s family
