1 AS-LEVEL FINE ART SECTION 7 PORTRAITURE

2 LEARNING OBJECTIVES YOU WILL…
Develop your drawing and painting skills in a range of media, some which you may or may not be familiar with. Learn to record your observations accurately and in proportion. Learn to render tones to achieve a high quality three-dimensional effect.

3 Task 1 DRAWING CHOICE 1: For the next 5 lessons you are going to select 1 of the 4 photographs that you have taken in your Rankin-inspired photo shoot. You now have a choice: Produce an A3 portrait drawing in black felt-tip pen using the Pointillist technique, or; Produce an A3 portrait drawing in black biro using the cross-hatching technique.

4 Task 1 CROSS-HATCHING Juan Francisco Casas

5 Task 1 POINTILLISM

6 Peer-assessment – task 1
GROUP CRITIQUE Now you are approximately ½ way through the drawing, blu-tack it onto a drawing board and rest this against the side so everyone can see it. Be prepared to answer the following about another person’s piece of work: Identify a drawing which is successful and identify why this is so? Identify a drawing where something could be further developed/improved, what is it and how could this be done? Self-evaluate your own whilst looking at the others and identify if there are any areas which would benefit from being developed.

7 Task 2 DRAWING 2: For the next 4 lessons you are going to select another of your 4 Rankin-inspired photos and produce an A2 chalk pastel portrait. You will be using only a white through grey to black spectrum of compressed charcoal sticks so it is your choice if you would prefer to work on a coloured sheet of paper instead of white paper. A neutral colour paper such as brown or cream might work the best, but it is your choice.

Self-evaluate your own whilst looking at the others and identify if there are any areas which would benefit from being developed.

10 Task 3 PAINTING: For the next 4 or 5 lessons you are going to select a final one of your 4 Rankin-inspired photos and you now have a choice: Produce a large-scale (you may choose an appropriate size) oil painting on canvas. Produce a large-scale (again, you may choose an appropriate size) acrylic painting on stretched paper.

11 Peer-assessment - critique
Oil/Acrylic Painting: Swap your oil or acrylic painting with another person in the group (someone you haven’t worked with yet). Looking at their piece, write your details on top of the sticker. Now, write your feedback for WWW (what works well) and EBI (even better if) Hand their work back with the sticker you have given feedback on. STICK this feedback sticker in the back of your book.

12 Homework – half-term Mixed-Media Portrait:
Over the half-term holiday, you will produce 1 additional portrait using your last Rankin- inspired photograph: On a sheet of A2 white paper, tear a large piece of brown paper and also a piece of newspaper, stick these down onto the A2 paper. On the white use pencil tone, On the brown use a colour media of your choice, On the newspaper, use biro crosshatching
