¤ born in Dublin 16 October 1854 ¤ father Sir William Wilde, leading eye & ear surgeon, gifted writer ¤ mother Lady Jane Francesca Wilde, succesful poet & journalist ¤ educated at Portora Royal School, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Trinity College( ), Trinity College, Dublin ( ) and Magdalen College, Oxford ( ). ¤ aesthetic movement ‘Art for Art’s Sake’ ¤ 1878 Newdigate prize for his poem ‘’Ravenna’’

¤ 1881 first collection of poetry –
“Poems” ¤ lectured in many countries ¤ on May 24, 1884 married Constance Lloyd ¤ had two sons Cyril and Vyvian ¤ In 1888 he published The Happy Prince and Other Tales, fairy-stories written for his two sons ¤ 1891 “Picture of Dorian Gray” ¤ In 1891 Wilde began an affair with Lord Alfred Douglas, nicknamed 'Bosie'
