5 Jesus Jesus was born in Bethlehem, raised in Nazareth in the Middle Eastern reaches of Roman empire Jesus was born Jewish and was said to be Messiah- Son of God Preaches throughout Middle East gaining many followers along way Followers are known as 12 Apostles- with Peter being most influential

Peace and Non-Violence Turn the other Cheek Love thy enemy

7 Roman Response Emperor sees Jesus as threat to his power
Why would he think this? Revolutionary Thinking God more important than Emperor Nonviolence goes against Roman values

8 Roman Response Jesus will be executed by Romans with a crucifixion
Death of Jesus will only help spread his message Apostles will continue to spread message throughout Rome

The Christians worked for God and Jesus over the Emperor Christian deny Roman gods, refused to partake in ceremonies Christians will become scapegoats for Roman problems

Christianity will become more popular despite persecution Executed become Martyrs- people who are killed for their beliefs Christian values very comforting- everyone is equal, love and brotherhood, promise of salvation

After years of internal growth Christainity will eventually be accepted when the Edict of Milan is passed under Emperor Constantine Edict of Milan grants religious freedom throughout Empire Emperor Theodosius will make Christainity official religion of Empire 80 years later.
