Our School Vision Riverton Education Support Centre is part of the Riverton Primary Campus which is an inclusive community where students work collaboratively in a rich learning environment to achieve their academic, social and emotional potential. Purpose We aim to foster an environment that is inclusive for all at our School. We believe in providing opportunities for all students to access all areas of the curriculum. ICT SCOPE AND SEQUENCE Riverton Education Support Centre VELS Level 1 PREP Basic computer skills ICT for visualising thinking, creating and communicating Working towards level 1 At level 1(end of year Prep) it is expected that all students will have developed competencies in: Safe handling of devices and equipment Familiarity with a range of software Students should be allowed to progress past these skills as their ICT competencies develop A. Identify computer-based technologies Identify examples of ICT equipment at home Identify and name Keyboard Mouse Monitor Cursor Printer Electrical connections Headphones B. Care and safe use of computer-based technologies Safe use of electrical equipment Correct posture at computer Handle headphones correctly C. Apply basic skills Log on and off, shut down Locate familiar programs Single click mouse Identify and use letters and numbers on the keyboard Using shift or caps lock for capital. Using full stop. A. Respond to a range of multi media resources Word Paint Range of literacy and numeracy software (eg Sounds Great, PM Stories, Galaxy Stories, Galaxy Maths, Nelson Maths etc) B. Recognise and use familiar icons and symbols Toolbar on Paint, KidPix and Word Print, open, close/quit/exit Locate, open and close familiar programs C. VELS Level 2 Basic computer skills ICT for visualising thinking, creating and communicating Children should be given opportunities to consolidate the skills and understandings from level 1 as they move towards level 2 in their learning. Working towards level 2 (Standards for ICT domain begin) At level 2 standard (end of grade 2), it is expected that all students will have developed competencies in: Safe handling of devices and equipment Use of a range of software Creation of simple information products. Students should be allowed to progress past these skills as their ICT competencies develop. A. Identify , name and use computer-based technologies Keyboard Mouse Monitor Cursor Printer Electrical connections Intranet Internet Files & folders Spreadsheets Introduce whole class B. Working towards level 3 (Dimensions for ICT begin)
Basic computer skills ICT for creating ICT for communicating Children should be given opportunities to consolidate the skills and understandings from previous levels as they move towards Level 3 in their learning. At level 3 standard (end of year 4) it is expected that all students will have developed competencies in: Safe handling of devices and equipment Use of a range of software and multi-media resources Basic skills in research, communication, analysis, creation and presentation of data Students should be allowed to progress past these skills as their ICT competencies develop. A. Identify, name and use computer-based technologies As per level two B. Care and safe use of computer-based technologies Understand and use a school code of conduct when accessing the internet C. Apply ICT skills Select and use printer Identify rows, columns and cells in Excel and in Word tables. Modify and edit Spell/grammar check Delete Copy Cut and paste Thesaurus Text alignment Undo / redo Insert shapes, pictures and text Drawing lines Save and retrieve files Create and rotate a text box Transfer and save to a computer still images captured with a digital camera Reflection and review Evaluate work of self and others using a teacher-made rubric to describe how well it meets the purpose A. Open, close and save Create a new file Save files into existing and new folders Use ‘save as’ B.
