1 Conclusions What everyone Can Do

2 What Students Can Do Choose not to participate. Report to an adult.
Encourage the peer group to take a stand. Take an individual stand. Be friendly toward the target. If you’re the target, walk away.

3 What Teachers Can Do Develop a class code of conduct with regard to treatment of other students, with specific reference to bullying and exclusion of other students. Follow up with immediate, consistent, non-violent consequences for all bullying and aggressive behaviour. Recognize and praise positive, friendly, and supportive behaviours of students toward one another on a frequent basis. Teach non-violent, non-racist, and non-sexist ideas, values and behaviours, as a core part of the everyday curriculum. Teach social skills, including communication, making friends, accepting feedback from others, conflict resolution, appropriate assertiveness, and problem-solving. Model positive, respectful, and supportive behaviour by the teacher, toward students. Use co-operative learning groups to include less popular, more timid students in small, positive, and accepting social groups.

4 What Schools Can Do Begin with a clear, acceptable definition of bullying. Recognize that it may take many forms. Discover what is happening at your school between members of the school community Make a plan for action. Provide an Anti-Bullying Policy. Talk with students individually and in groups about what can be done, and work with them. Deal appropriately with bullying incidents. Provide help to students who are being victimized by others at school. Work constructively with parents.

5 What Employees Can Do DO
ENCOURAGE everyone at the workplace to act towards others in a respectful and professional manner. HAVE a workplace policy in place that includes a reporting system. EDUCATE everyone that bullying is a serious matter. TRY TO WORK OUT solutions before the situation gets serious or out of control. EDUCATE everyone about what is considered bullying, and whom they can go to for help. TREAT all complaints seriously, and deal with complaints promptly and confidentially. TRAIN supervisors and managers in how to deal with complaints and potential situations. Encourage them to address situations promptly whether or not a formal complaint has been filed. HAVE an impartial third party help with the resolution if necessary. DO NOT DO NOT IGNORE any potential problems. DO NOT DELAY resolution. Act as soon as possible.

6 You CAN Make A Difference!
“We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.” - Marian Wright Edelman
