Used to show where letters, numerals, or words have been left out in a contraction Example: I am/ I’m 2014/ ‘14

Usage To create possession of a singular or plural noun not ending in s, add an apostrophe and an s Student’s big green book Children’s toys To create possession of a plural noun ending in s, add only the apostrophe Actresses’ lines Batteries’ charge

Usage continued… To show joint ownership, make the final noun possessive Clarice and Karla’s friends (they share the same friends) To show individual ownership, make each noun possessive Clarice’s and Karla’s friends (each person has different friends
