An element is a substance consisting of atoms which have the same number of protons (atomic number on periodic table)
Elements cannot be broken down using chemical methods
Example: Ag (Silver)

Proton: A subatomic particle that has a + electric charge.
Electron: A subatomic particle that has a – electric charge.
Neutron: A subatomic particle that has no net electric charge (mass = larger than a proton)

It is a substance formed with two or more chemical elements that are chemically bonded together (Hint think of compound words)
Two types of chemical bonds: (Covalent and Ionic)

Covalent Bond: formed by the sharing of one or more electrons. A chemical bond is formed when electrons are shared between 2 atoms.
Example of Covalent Bond: Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

Ionic Bond: is when a + charge ion forms a bond with a – charged one. One atom transfers electrons to another.
Example of Ionic Bond: Sodium Chloride (NaCl)
