8” MCP Flow for 8/7/2012 and -003 coated at Fermi and returned to ANL on 8/3/12 and -050 packed and ready for Fermi courier to pick up 8/8/12 and -078 still at Fermi

Mock-up of ass’y using transporter #30 bottom piece, spring, spacer, 3 additional spacers (to approximate transporter top piece) and MCP that had been received damaged. SPRING
3
Unable to move the MCP at all in the transporter until screws were loosened by about ½ turn.
4
Removed the spacers leaving only the spring above the MCP, and used this hand-held 8x magnifier to inspect.

The crack in this MCP (13600-099) follows an edge of the relief cut in the spring.

MCP measures 8.003” x 8.003”, thickness measures .045”to .050”. The opening in the transporter measures 8.014” x 8.014”. All springs at ANL were inspected to see if any had a rough inside edge toward the MCP side. Most were smooth on both sides, and the few that were somewhat rough were rough toward the spacer side. Dowel holes prevent flipping this piece over. Incom has seen these photos and has been kept in the loop on this. Jason is investigating redesign of the spring.

was cracked in 2 corners (bottom right and top right) and each of these appears to also have occurred along the relief in the spring.

Uncertain as to what happened to the 3rd damaged MCP shown below
Uncertain as to what happened to the 3rd damaged MCP shown below. This was damaged in diagonally opposite corners and had chips broken off the edge, not a crack extending in from the edge. May be a different root cause. from Transporter 35
