Step 1: Pick a style for note taking
Outline style Cornell Notes

Step 2: Tips for note taking
Write down only important information No plagiarism! Pick key words Don’t worry about capitalization or punctuation Abbreviate familiar words/use symbols (+, à, #) Skip lines Use colored pens

Categories Ex: parts of a cell Questions Ex: What are the parts of a cell? Vocabulary words Ex: Mitosis Review/Test Alerts! Ex: Study parts of the cell! Connections Ex: Similar to concept from last unit Reminders Ex: Remember to look up meiosis

Step 4: Summary Summary Area: write a summary of what you read, summary of what you learned, the 5most important points of the article/chapter/lecture, and/or questions you still need to answer.

Step 5: Review Notes Review notes right after you take them
Review them at night Review before a test Rewrite/type notes Highlight important information in your notes
