FAL1 (red ribbon) maps to a focally amplified region of chr1q21 and exerts its function by interacting with BMI1/PRC1, promoting its stabilization by blocking its proteasomal degradation. This has an effect on the ubiquitylation levels of H2AK119 target genes such as CDKN1A, potentially explaining FAL1’s oncogenic role in cancer.
