There are 8 planets in our solar system.
The solar system was formed about 4.6 billion years ago. As of 2008, there are also five dwarf planets.

The Sun The Sun is a star found at the center of our solar system.
It makes up around percent of the solar system. Light from the Sun reaches Earth in about 8 minutes.

Mercury Some of the craters on mercury are very deep.
Scientists believe there is frozen ice in deep craters at the poles. One crater is 8 miles long.

Venus Venus has no moon Venus rotates in the opposite direction of Earth. The sun rises in the west and sets in the east. One day on Venus is as long as 117 day’s Earth.

Earth Earth is the only planet that is living in are solar system.

Mars Mars is called the red planet because it looks fiery red from the Earth.

Jupiter Jupiter is one of the gas giants.

Saturn Saturn has at least 31 moons.

Uranus Uranus is the only planet with it’s ring on it’s side.

Neptune Neptune is the coldest planet away from the sun.

Dwarf Planet Pluto Pluto’s moon is almost as large as Pluto itself.

Asteroid Some asteroids can hit planets.
