During war, government kept cost of consumer goods stable, without these controls > prices rises Inflation occurred from huge increase in consumer demand and spending No war means no jobs for soldiers

Control labor unions Reverse New Deal policies Favored big business and wanted to limit the power of labor unions

Taft-Hartley Act Limited the actions workers could take against their employers Outlaw closed shop, the practice of forcing business owners to hire only union members Allowed gov. to temporarily stop any strike that endangered public health or safety Truman vetoed but Congress overrode

National Security Act: Unified the armed services under the Department of Defense National Security Council: Gives advice to the President on foreign and military matters Central Intelligence Agency: Collects info about what is going on in other countries, evaluates, and passes it on to the president
