What is happening with cloud technology?
Microsoft Inspire 4/10/2019 6:34 AM What is happening with cloud technology? The cloud is transforming how businesses consume IT Consumption-based resources and services can scale up or down Scale used to be cost-prohibitive to small businesses SMBs can reduce costs by 50% by moving data to the cloud The cloud is transforming how businesses consume IT today by offering consumption-based resources and services that can scale up or down, as needed. This is an especially appealing value proposition for SMBs, as they can take advantage of a scale that was previously cost-prohibitive. In a McKinsey study, SMBs were able to reduce costs by 50% by moving to an IaaS solution. According to AMI research, roughly one quarter of SBs and one half of MBs plan to shift their budgets to more cloud spending over on-premises spending. Source: © Microsoft Corporation. How can the cloud help me?
Microsoft Inspire 4/10/2019 6:34 AM How can the cloud help me? Need to increase data capacity Need to ensure compliance with government and industry regulations Need to secure data in the cloud and at all access points $$$$$ $$$$ $$ $ If you’re like most companies, you’re starting to see the value of cloud computing and recognizing it as the way of the future. But, you likely have some questions about how it all works and what it means for your team to manage: Data back-ups—if you’ve been managing an on-premises server, the idea of sending your data into the cloud can be disconcerting. Where will the data be stored? How will you maintain control of your IP and data assets? Recovery—what if something happens to the servers storing your data? How will you access your business-critical information without service interruption for your end-customers? Security—How will you protect data in-transit and at rest? Will you even know if there has been a security breach? How will you mitigate threats if your data lives outside of your firewall? Need to reduce costs Need to ensure data availability and infrastructure reliability © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. Why is Azure right for me?
Microsoft Inspire 4/10/2019 6:34 AM Why is Azure right for me? Security Monitor security across on- premises and cloud workloads Apply policy to ensure compliance with security standards Find and fix vulnerabilities before they can be exploited Use access and application controls to block malicious activity Leverage advanced analytics and threat intelligence to detect attacks Simplify investigation for rapid threat response Data back-up Eliminate the need to maintain backups Support born-in-the-cloud applications Protect remote offices and branch locations without the complexity of in-house management Deliver fast time-to-value without the overhead and capital expense of standing up a backup solution Stop hardware sprawl—even when facing severe app proliferation and massive data growth Pay for only the storage you need—when you need it Disaster recovery No infrastructure required No need to sacrifice RPO and RTO goals Supports critical workloads Works with what you have Easy to manage—automated replication, policy-based protection, and one-click orchestrated recovery Premium protection against operational and human errors with intra-cloud disaster recovery and backup Data back-up Due to business or compliance requirements, organizations are required to protect their data for years, and over time this data grows exponentially. Traditionally, tape has been used for long-term retention. Backup provides a compelling alternative to tape with significant cost savings, shorter recovery times, and up to 99 years of retention. Your backup data is secure over the wire and at rest. The backup data can be stored in geo-replicated storage which maintains 6 copies of your data across two Azure datacenters. For lower cost on less critical data, your backup can be local-replicated with 3 copies. With 99.9% service availability, Backup provides operational peace of mind. Built-in features, such as compression, encryption, longer retention, and bandwidth throttling, help boost IT efficiency. Disaster recovery Site Recovery can help restore services if you have a site outage at your primary data center. This is true even for complex workloads. Azure Site Recovery makes it easy to test your site recovery plan whenever you want. It won’t disrupt normal operations. Use Site Recovery to protect Hyper-V, VMWare, and physical servers. It automatically manages replication. It does this by working with technologies such as System Center and SQL Server AlwaysOn. It can also migrate applications easily or temporarily push to Azure if there’s a higher demand. Site Recovery also makes it simple to develop and test new applications with copies of live data. Security Azure Security Center has robust capabilities to prevent attacks. When threats do happen, Security Center can quickly detect and respond to threats with advanced analytics and Microsoft Intelligent Security Graph. Industry’s most extensive threat intelligence: Tap into the Microsoft Intelligent Security Graph, which uses trillions of signals from Microsoft services and systems around the globe to identify new and evolving threats. Advanced threat detection: Use built-in behavioral analytics and machine learning to identify attacks and zero-day exploits. Monitor networks, machines, and cloud services for known attack patterns and post-breach activity. Prioritized alerts and incidents: Focus on the most critical threats first with prioritized security alerts and incidents that map alerts of different types into a single attack campaign. Create your own custom security alerts as well. Streamlined investigation: Quickly assess the scope and impact of an attack with a visual, interactive experience. Use predefined or ad hoc queries for deeper exploration of security data. Contextual threat intelligence: Visualize the source of attacks on an interactive world map. Use built-in threat intelligence reports to gain valuable insight into the techniques and objectives of known malicious actors. Source: Source: SPM deck © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. How have other customers benefited from Azure?
Microsoft Inspire 4/10/2019 6:34 AM How have other customers benefited from Azure? Data back-up Site Recovery Security “Our IT staff no longer has to handle tapes daily, coordinate with the external storage company, and pay for tape equipment maintenance, all of which equates to a savings of €30,000 to €40,000 [US$33,000 to US$45,000] annually.” Daniel Platz, IT Manager "Azure has revolutionized our disaster recovery offerings in the market. Simply put, we can very easily provide centrally managed DR to our customers for 44 percent lower costs." Paul Collins, Technical Services Director “We have better security from a unified identity perspective. No matter which devices employees use, I can use Azure Active Directory Premium to authenticate their access to our network.” Will Lamb, Infrastructure Coordinator Data back-up Due to business or compliance requirements, organizations are required to protect their data for years, and over time this data grows exponentially. Security As companies embrace the opportunities presented by cloud and mobile computing to connect with customers and optimize operations, they take on new risks. One of the biggest challenges in digital transformation is ensuring security, privacy, and compliance. The numerous security offerings from Azure can help you: Protect users with identity and access management Protect data with information protection solutions Manage enterprise security by detecting and responding to threats, protecting against therats, and gaining visibility into your security health Source: Source: SPM deck Source: “We don’t have to worry about managing space on expensive purpose-built backup storage systems. We have no tape costs, management costs, nothing. Backup is dramatically cheaper with Azure.” Sean DeLessio, Lead Engineer "It would have taken up to 10 days to restore the whole datacenter data from tape, a catastrophically long time. With Azure, we can recover our entire datacenter in two to three hours, and we’re working to shrink that further." Daniel Platz, IT Manager “We have a lot of turnover in our store workforce so we have to be able to train people quickly and keep information secure. We give them a username and password, and they’re able to reset their own passwords through Azure Active Directory. This is important, because we have such a small IT staff.” Scott Bentzel, Director of IT © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
