3 Biography An account of a persons life that is written by a different person. Autobiography Writers account of his/her own life Memoir Autobiography that focuses on significant event of ones own life Personal essay Autobiography that focuses on a particular subject Journalism Presents facts, information, statistics in straightforward manner

4 Style is the way a writer uses language Does it flow? Is it very formal or scientific? Is it conversational and down-to-earth? Etc. Bias- Strong opinion; The text clearly expresses the authors opinion. Does not just present the facts. Ex: Cable News shows, editorials, persuasive essays

5 Identify the authors purpose in any text Will typically be one of 3 things: To inform To persuade To entertain

6 Facts are OBJECTIVE This means that they are accurate and the information is not changing Opinions are SUBJECTIVE This means that opinions are open to interpretation based on a persons personal experiences; in other words, you can have multiple right opinions (You cannot have multiple correct facts that contradict each other.)
