Definition Coefficient:
numeric factor that is being multiplied by the variable. Example: -3x ½ y ½

The Multiplication Property of Equality
For all rational numbers a, b , and c If a = b, then ac = bc You can multiply the same number by both sides. When you multiply by the reciprocal it is the same as dividing.

To solve an equation like 8x = 96
Goal: need to isolate the variable on one side of the equal sign. How: do the opposite operation of what is being done to the variable. Why: by doing the opposite operation it will make the coefficient of x “1”. Rule: whatever you do to one side of the equation you must do to the other.
