OBSTACLES “What are the problems and challenges we face because the lack of uniformity among nutrition standards?” What we know. Our staff understands that we must follow guidelines. Our staff understands that all schools must have a Wellness Policy. Our staff is confused when they hear that requirements vary from District to District or Department to Department. Our staff is confused when food service is restricted serving certain items but the foods sold or made available to students have no restrictions. Our staff is discouraged when they work to be role models, educating our students about proper nutrition and healthy lifestyles when there is little support encouraging a consistent message. Our staff is discouraged when they suggest introducing new products only to find out they are limited because of cost or availability. Who makes the call? We all are on the same board but going in different directions. Pieces of the puzzle do not fit. Surveys What we found. Goes back to finding that it isn’t easy when clear direction is not given and followed.
