Why has online dating become so popular?

Refresh your memory I was interested in researching why people use dating apps and sites, because I wanted to find out why online dating has become so popular. I was also interested to see if these apps and websites were used to find love, hookups or to pass the time. Our generation has become very involved with apps, while the older generation however, also uses these apps and online dating sites, Dating apps and dating sites have become more common and acceptable over the years.

time “I think a big part, is we’re so busy now-a-days. Like for me, I’m so busy now. If I hadn’t done the dating app back then, all I ever did was go to work and then home. I never went out, I didn’t go to bars. I didn’t do any of that. So, like I would never have time to meet anybody and then for me, I was also in a college town with so many people.”
7
Convenience “It’s convenient because you don’t have to go out looking for someone, you can just go find them online and it’s easier to find the preference you are looking for.”
8
Goals “Um I, I wasn’t looking for love it was more like it just seemed fun to like swipe through and see who was on there that I thought was cute. I guess I was probably looking for more of a hookup than a relationship, but I was just going to see what happened and if I even got together with anyone from there.” Hook Ups: “I went into um signing up for like a dating app hoping to actually meet someone and actually start a relationship and then delete the app.” Relationships: “Um I’m bored half the time, if I find something that is interesting then I’ll go ahead and peruse it. Um am I looking for love no not necessarily. Um am I looking you know um for a hook up, absolutely not um like I said I’m just bored half the time and if I match with somebody then I match with somebody. If I reach out or they reach out and we have a nice conversation, then you know it is what it is from there.” Bored:
9
Out of the 10 interviews that I conducted, less people used the apps/sites for hook ups.
More people use these apps/sites for relationships or out of boredom. Dating apps and sites are a convenient way to include dating into our already busy lives. It’s easier than trying to meet someone in the grocery store, at school or even at work. You don’t have to play guessing games on whether or not they are single or think that you are attractive. It’s a much faster way to find what you need whether it is a hookup, relationship or just a conversation because you are bored. findings
