2 What is the FSA? Florida’s K-12 assessment system measures students’ achievement of Florida’s education standards, which were developed and implemented to ensure that all students graduate from high school ready for success in college, career, and life. This assessment supports instruction and student learning. Test results help Florida’s educational leadership and stakeholders determine whether the goals of the education system are being met.

3 What are the Florida State Standards?
Standards are simple statements about what students are expected to know or do as a result of what they learn in class.  Standards ensure that all schools and all classrooms have the same expectations for students. They help to make sure all children have access to a high-quality education.

6 What are the Florida State Standards for 4th graders?
LAFS.3.RL.3.7 Explain how specific aspects of a text’s illustrations contribute to what is conveyed by the words in a story (e.g., create mood, emphasize aspects of a character or setting). 8 Who will take the FSA? Students in grades 3-5 will participate in FSA ELA (English Language Arts) and Mathematics assessments. Students enrolled in grades 4 & 5 will also participate in ELA Writing Assessments.

9 Will my student receive any accommodations?
Students having up-to-date IEPs and Section 504 plans to receive the accommodations that are indicated on the current IEP or 504 plan for state- wide assessments.

10 Test Administration Information Grade 4 ELA Writing (Paper-Based)
Consists of one text-based constructed-response item (students read a variety of texts and respond to a prompt). Administered in one 120-minute session. A Writing Planning sheet is provided along with 3 lined pages for student writing.

The Writing Assessment is scored out of a total of 10 points. Each essay is scored based on the following domains: Purpose, Focus, and Organization (4 points) Evidence and Elaboration (4 points) Conventions of Standard English (2 points) Final writing scores are averaged into the students’ reading score.

14 Test Administration Information ELA Reading & Mathematics Grades 3-5 (Paper Based)
ELA Reading and Mathematics assessments contain items. FSA ELA & Mathematics sessions are administered over 2 days. Test session lengths are as follows: ELA Reading – Two 80-minute sessions Mathematics – Two 80-minute sessions Calculators are NOT permitted for Grades 3-5 Mathematics. Reference sheets are available and samples can be found on the FSA Portal.

19 Practice FSA Tests www.fsassessments.org
Computer-based and paper-based practice tests, as well as paper-based test items practice handouts, for each assessment, are available on the FSA Portal . Students are required to participate in a practice session at school prior to testing. 

20 Invalidation The following actions can invalidate your child’s test:
Talking and/or being disruptive during testing. Not following testing instructions. Having electronic devices. Cheating or sharing answers.

21 Promotion Information
Fourth grade promotion is based on: Grade Point Average- Students earning below a 59% in every quarter of each course can become a candidate for retention. FSA Score – Students need a level 3 to pass the FSA in both Reading and Mathematics.

23 Testing Day Reminders Get plenty of rest.
Eat a nutritious breakfast. A small snack will be served when testing is COMPLETED. Be on time! Do NOT bring any electronic devices. Use good test-taking strategies taught throughout the school year. Do your best. Check your work carefully. *If your child is not feeling well on the day of the test, please keep him/her home. Make-up days are scheduled directly after the testing days. Once a student begins the test, if he/she would get sick, the test cannot be retaken.
