The diagonals bisect each other.
Any side of a parallelogram can be chosen as base of the parallelogram.
The perpendicular dropped on that side from the opposite vertex is known
as height (altitude).

3. Formula for finding the area of a parellelogram
Is the area of the parallelogram equal to the area of the rectangle formed?
Yes, Area of the parallelogram = Area of the rectangle formed
We find that the length of rectangle(l) =base of the parallelogram (b)
and breadth of rectangle(b) =height of the parallelogram(b)
We know that Area of rectangle = (length × breadth) sq. Units
∴ Area of parallelogram = (base × height) sq. Units
= b x h sq units
Area of parallelogram = b x h sq units

Example:
Find the area of the following figure
Solution:
Given: Base = 6 m Height = 8 m; To find: Area
Area of a parallelogram = b x h sq units
= 6m x 8m
= 48 m2
Area of a parallelogram = 48 m2
