Examples of key projects (I)
Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation & Vulnerability WATCH: Water and Global Change. Analysis, quantification and prediction of the components of the current & future global water cycle and related water resources EURO-LIMPACS: Integrated Project to evaluate the Impacts of Global Change on European Freshwater Ecosystems. AMMA: African monsoon multidisciplinary analysis – improving weather forecasting for early warning systems, risk management and civil protection in Africa. .

Climate Change impact, adaptation & vulnerability
FP6 ( ) Running projects Examples of key projects (II) Climate Change impact, adaptation & vulnerability CIRCE: Climate Change & Impact Research – The Mediterranean environment. Assessment of climate change impacts in the Mediterranean area. The project will predict and quantify physical impacts and evaluate consequences for society and the economy EDEN: Emerging Diseases in a Changing European Environment Studied a range of diseases that are specially sensitive to environmental changes. ADAM: Adaptation & Mitigation Strategies: Supporting European Climate Policy Assessment of the extent to which existing and evolving EU mitigation and adaptation policies can achieve a tolerable transition to a world with a global climate not warmer than 2°C above pre-industrial levels.

Projects starting in 2007 Climate change impacts on mountain regions (ACQWA): The project will assess the impacts of a changing climate, focusing on the quantity and quality of water originating in mountain regions assessing the influence to downstream regime and related sectors and uses. It will quantify the influence of climate change to river discharge and analyse the impacts on society and accounting feedback mechanisms. Deliverables: Impacts on forests, aquatic ecosystems, agriculture, water demand, reservoir management & hydropower, tourism Case studies, assessment of competitive uses of water Adaptation measures and policy choices Dissemination to policy: Report, WG policy + stakeholder interface
11
Projects starting in 2007 Bridging the Gap Between Adaptation Strategies of Climate Change Impacts & European Water Policies (ClimateWater): Analysis of the adaptation measures & strategies on climate change impacts on water including water use related activities. Process: review the impacts; analysis, review and synthesis of adaptation measures including mitigation in order to formulate a coherent framework on adaptation strategies of climate change impacts on water resources and water uses. Deliverables: Reports on impacts and adaptation measures Report on measures versus EU policies (present and future) Research needs Dissemination Meetings, Symposium.
12
Implications of drought policies for integrated water management
Projects starting in 2007 An exercise to assess research needs and policy choices in areas of drought (XEROCHORE): Assist development of Policy and identify research agenda Natural system, impact of climate & hydrology on drought Economic and social impacts of droughts Environmental impacts of droughts Implications of drought policies for integrated water management Drought associated policies – Recommendations towards a EU Drought Policy Deliveries: Network consultations, workshops, final conference, reports
