5 Let the light of Christ shine in our lives
Gather The Lord be with you And also with you Let the light of Christ shine in our lives

6 Receive In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy God sent the angel Gabriel to a town in Galilee named Nazareth. He had a message for a young woman promised in marriage to a man named Joseph, who was a descendant of king David. Her name was Mary. The angel came to her and said, “Peace be with you! The Lord is with you and has greatly blessed you!” … Continues on the next slide

7 Receive … Mary was deeply troubled by the angel’s message, and she pondered what his words meant. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Mary; God has been gracious to you. You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High God. From the Gospel according to Luke , Chapter 1, verses 26 to 32

8 Engage The angel Gabriel, who visited Mary, is God's chief messenger angel and only appears to very important people in the Bible. Mary would have been likely to have been a young teenager—around 14 years old. The first words that Gabriel spoke to Mary “Peace be with you! The Lord is with you and has greatly blessed you!” are very important words. ‘Greatly blessed' means 'God's holy grace is upon you' and is a divine blessing from God - something that would have never normally been said to a peasant girl like Mary. It is likely that she would have been very scared by this which might explain why Gabriel is reported as saying 'Do not be afraid'.

9 Engage Some discussion ideas …
If you were a messenger from God what messages of hope would you give to the world? What do you think a messenger from God would look like today? Video suggestions … The Angel Gabriel and Mary – an excerpt from BBC1 An interview with actor Eddie Elks about acting the part of Gabriel

10 Respond Amen Lord, we need your blessing
to make us whole, fulfilled people; but if that blessing should lead us into strange and difficult paths we ask that you will strengthen our faith and our trust that we may accept what you want us to do - so that being blessed, we may in turn be a blessing to others. Amen

11 Go out into the world with the light of Christ
Let us bless the Lord Thanks be to God Go out into the world with the light of Christ
