Present students of varying ages with a problem-based learning opportunity that will:
“ help the students develop flexible knowledge, effective problem solving skills, self-directed learning, effective collaboration skills and intrinsic motivation.”

Present students with a box that contains a set of materials that they can use to solve an assigned problem.
Engaging problems for students
Equitable distribution of materials
Primer tasks for design planning
Friendly school competition
Professional development for teachers
Engineers are invited to work with students

8. Role of the Tutor
tutor (teacher) is the facilitator of problem-based learning initiatives as outlined by McMaster University
tutors should facilitate the project, but not direct students

9. This Year’s Gathering
Don Mills C.I. will host this year’s Rethink the Box secondary event on May 15, 2018, for 12 participating schools
Don Mills C.I. will host this year’s Rethink the Box elementary event on May 16, 2018, for 20 participating schools
Students are paired with engineers to help students with their creations
Each team will consist of 5 students, one tutor (teacher) and an assigned engineer
