1 Geometry: Cartesian Plane
Transformations - Reflections

2 Reflection - Strategies
Tracing: Trace shape, label vertices, and shade the new shape. Cut out shape and reflect it from the line of reflection so that the shaded side is facing down. Distance of Vertices: Count the units each vertice is from the line of reflection, and mark the reflected vertices that same distance on the opposite side.

3 Reflections Reflect triangle ABC over line m to form triangle A’B’C’. What are the coordinates of the reflected triangle? A’: (-6, -8) B’: (-3, -8) C’: (-2, -5) Reflect triangle A’B’C’ over the y-axis to form triangle A’’B’’C’’. What are the coordinates of the reflected triangle? A’’: (6, -8) B’’: (3, -8) C’’: (2, -5) B A C m C’’ C’ A’’ B’’ A’ B’

4 Reflection Activity ... Yes!
In a group of 4, first draw a large cartesian plane on the grid paper. Draw a quadrilateral in one of the quadrants, and label the vertices. You are to create 3 different reflections with your shape. For each reflection, first decide on whether to reflect over a reflection line or an axis. You may use either strategy discussed (use scrap paper for tracing). Write the ordered pair (coordinates) for each vertice. Check out my example if you need assistance. Once completed, you will trade your work with another group to mark. We will take up selected examples.
