PC Reserves/DecisionSite Integration Improved RAC Process
John Pederson, ChevronTexaco Tim Loser, Spotfire

Problem: Handling Reserve Data
Labor intensive: Extensive resources are used to generate, validate and analyze CVX’s Reserves data Multiple Evaluation Methods: Differently methods and cutoff parameters are used to analyze and evaluate reserve information. Differences occur from business unit to business unit, from asset to asset, and from reservoir to reservoir Discrepancies: Differences in techniques and cutoff parameter can create discrepancies in reserve calculations – the asset of all E&P companies Efficient Evaluation: How can we efficiently evaluate the reserves from the PC Reserves database for use by the corporation?
3
Reserves Review Process
Introduction Definitions: PC-Reserves: Reserves reporting Database Opco: operating company RAC: Reserves Audit Committee SBU: Strategic Business Unit Asset team: field level team Annual Cycle
4
Project Goals Provide easy, fast and robust connectivity to PC Reserves Database Automate commonly performed tasks, such as RAC required plots Enable quick look QC tools Create an environment for standard and improved analysis using CVX reserves data
5
Improved confidence in reserves data
Benefits Reduced analysis time Improved Data Access More Intuitive Interface Automated RAC Templates Improved confidence in reserves data Increased use of reserves data through new analysis and classification techniques Platform for rapid deployment of successful analysis practices
6
Export from PC Reserves
Create your own queries from PC Reserves Ad Hoc Query tool. Directly load a DecisionSite session from PC Reserves for data analysis Alternatively export to a file and import data to DecisionSite
7
Direct Access to PC Reserves
Common data requests provided from DecisionSite Interface Data pre-configured for RAC templates Common calculations and data manipulations performed “on-the-fly” Recovery Factors (Current and Ultimate) R/P Total Reserves (Risked and Unrisked) Expected Value Reserves 100%, Does not require launching PC Reserves Security of data maintained using standard CVX policies
8
Data Retrieval through DecisionSite
No Database knowledge necessary Direct Connection to PC Reserves Load Data Exported from PC Reserves Common Calculations Created Automatically ***Framework in place for rapid deployment of further additions

12
Data Validation Allows users to “walk through” routine analysis used to identify quality problems in PC Reserves data Reserves:OOIP Mismatch Negative Reserves Production Reserves Mismatch (Negative Reserves Screen) Data screened using these processes are labeled for further investigation.
13
Value of DecisionSite Integration
Higher confidence of the quality of reserves data Improved efficiency in analysis of reserves data Increased understanding of asset base Standardization of common practices Improved opportunity discovery rate Establishes a platform for deploying new and better methods for analyzing reserve data
