The New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers is a diverse membership organization that promotes, develops, and strengthens the professional practice of social work and social workers. 5 Role of Regional Representatives
Will serve as the Board liaison to Unit leaders (Chair, Co-chair, Steering Committee). When a position becomes vacant, will help identify potential Unit leaders. Will attend Unit event(s) organized by a new Unit leader (when possible) and help leaders develop a Steering Committee for their Unit (if needed). Will help “roll out” new ideas/programs in their regions/Units (e.g. promoting Prospective SW program, share information re: Conference and CE programs, etc.). Unit Leaders are one of the many volunteer leadership roles within NASW-NJ that helps augment the work of paid staff, allowing NASW-NJ to provide regional events and programming for social workers across New Jersey. 9 Role of Unit Chair and Co-Chair

Information and Forms Our Unit Leader Toolkit will provide you access to forms, documents, information and resources you will need as Unit Leader. Please let us know if there is anything we can create or provide that will help you in your role! Unit Leader Toolkit: Visit Hover over “About Us” and click on “Units” Click on “Unit Leader Toolkit” on the right side Log in with username and password. Types of Events Networking, social, educational, continuing education, social work month event, advocacy, public service, or volunteer Location to Host & Time Assisted living facilities, libraries, non-profit organizations, Chapter office, restaurants Events run 2 hours, weekday evenings Choose a Topic & Invite a Speaker Unit member, Chapter staff, social work or other professionals Involve Your Members Ask for ideas Invite them to join Steering Committee Encourage them to bring a friend (non-members can attend one event before they are asked to join.) Schedule & Promote Your event to NASW Members (in this order please): Fill out the Meeting Announcement online form (available in Unit Manual) at least 30 days prior to the event Staff will post event on NASW Calendar Send an to your Unit Members to announce event; include the Calendar Link and ask members to register online; ALSO be sure to include “NASW-NJ” in the subject line. Chapter will promote event in newSWire™ Send out 2 reminder s to your Unit members: one two weeks before the event and another a few days before event Promotion should not imply endorsement of a specific person, product, or service by NASW or NASW-NJ. **IMPORTANT – We recommend that you send from the address NASW-NJ has on file, otherwise your will not be transmitted. 25 Continuing Education Events
Units can offer CEU events as a way to encourage attendance and recruitment Two CEU workshops exclusive for the Unit each year Submit a request HERE, at least 60 days in advance, to discuss topics and schedule program Identify and reserve free location (minimum of 30 seats). 30 CEU Incentive for Unit Leaders
Unit Leadership Training = 1 CEU Voucher 4 Unit events = 1 CEU Voucher You may receive a maximum of 5 CEU Vouchers during any given fiscal year CEU Vouchers are not redeemable for the Annual Conference or special CEU events. CEU Vouchers may not be transferred to other members. 1 (Fall) Training = 1 CE Voucher 1 (Spring) Training = 1 CE Voucher 4 Unit Events (Sept-Dec) = 1 CE Voucher 4 Unit Events (Jan-Apr) = 1 CE Voucher 4 Unit Events (May-Aug)= 1 CE Voucher TOTAL (Maximum) = 5 CE Vouchers per year In an effort to show our appreciation for all of the work that you do as Volunteer Staff all Unit Leaders who attend this training will receive a voucher redeemable for use towards 1CEU. We will have 2 training sessions per year for which you will receive a voucher for use towards one CEU. An additional CEU Voucher will be given to each Unit leader who hosts 4 Unit events of any kind during the fiscal year. Unit leaders may receive up to 5 CEU Vouchers in a given fiscal year culminating from 2 trainings and 12 Unit events. These vouchers will be redeemable at NASW-NJ CEU events that may be held throughout the year, they may not be used for the Annual Conference or NASW-NJ events designated as “special” events.
