I born in north-west London to Greek-Cypriot parents and went to school in North London.
I always wanted to be a teacher
When I was in primary school, my teachers used to tell my parents ‘Your daughter is so bossy; she always tells us what to do. We think she’s going to be a teacher’.
My father is quite like a teacher, my mom teaches adults, my sister is a deputy head teacher in a secondary school, my brother is an examiner at a driving school so is pretty much like a teacher . Teaching is a family business
I have been a teacher for my whole career of 12 years at Alperton Community School in London 
I am the 2018 winner of the Global Teacher Prize - a $1 million award by the Varkey Foundation to a teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession. This year, there were over 30,000 applicants.
I was nominated for the prize by someone who I worked with years ago, and finished my application at the eleventh hour - a day before my wedding- I barely had time to complete the application and didn’t think I’d get in. .
