4/16/2019 McPherson College, Fall 2017 Student Satisfaction Inventory Administration The Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI) is administered every three years to all full-time undergraduate students. The SSI measures student satisfaction and importance in 11 different areas which are comprised of a group of items. 1. Academic advising Concern for the individual 2. Campus climate Campus life 3. Service excellence Instructional effectiveness 4. Registration effectiveness Student centeredness 5. Recruitment and financial aid Campus support services 6. McPherson College Satisfaction vs. National Ratings MC students had higher satisfaction ratings on all 11 scales than national SSI ratings. In addition, McPherson College student satisfaction increased from 2014 to 2017 for each of the college’s areas of strength and challenge.

Student Satisfaction Inventory Administration The SSI was administered online to all full-time undergraduate students in September of 2017. A total of 493 students completed the survey. A 73% response rate MC can compare its data with other national 4-year private institutions and compare against itself from previous SSI administrations in 2011 and 2014.

Student Satisfaction Inventory Administration Each of the 11 areas and each item has a gap score. A gap score is the difference between students' importance level and satisfaction level. If the gap score is a positive number students feel the area/item is more important than they are satisfied with that item/area. If the gap score is a negative number students feel more satisfied with the area/item than they feel the area/item is important.

Top items with significantly higher satisfaction than the nation: My academic advisor is approachable. Males and females have equal opportunities to participate in intercollegiate athletics. Nearly all the faculty are knowledgeable in their field. Tutoring services are readily available. Top items with significantly lower satisfaction than the nation: I am able to connect to the Internet with few difficulties, using the wireless network. The amount of student parking space on campus is adequate. There is an adequate selection of food available in the cafeteria. Strengths are items of high importance and high satisfaction. They are listed in descending order of importance. Strengths are the survey items that students rated most important and among the most satisfying from a total of 73 survey items. 9 McPherson College: Additional Strengths
Nearly all of the faculty are knowledgeable in their field. I am able to experience intellectual growth here. The campus staff are caring and helpful. Students are made to feel welcome on this campus. Faculty are usually available after class and during office hours. On the whole, the campus is well-maintained. My academic advisor is concerned about my success as an individual. The personnel involved in registration are helpful. This institution has a good reputation within the community. Library resources and services are adequate. Males and females have equal opportunities to participate in intercollegiate athletics. Tutoring services are readily available. Campus item: The library has the atmosphere I need for both studying individually and meeting in groups. There is a strong commitment to racial harmony on this campus.

59% of students reported they would definitely or probably re-enroll at M.C. if they had the opportunity to do it all over again.

Challenges are defined as the survey items that students rated as top-priority areas for improvement at M.C..
