Newton’s Three Laws of Motion
2
Force: A Push or Pull
3
First Law An object in motion will stay in motion or an object at rest will remain at rest unless it is acted on by a net outside force.
4
Inertia Inertia is the tendency of an object to resist a change in the state of its motion.
5
Second Law If a net outside force is acting on an object then the object will accelerate at a rate proportional to the net force and in the direction of the net force.
6
AP 2nd Law Equation
7
Mass vs. Weight
8
Every force is accompanied by an equal and opposite force.
Third Law Every force is accompanied by an equal and opposite force.
9
Third Law Pairs Do Not Cancel
Although equal and opposite, third law pair forces do not cancel each other out. This is because each force acts on a different object.
