Algebra 2 09/12/16 EQ: How do I graph 2-variable linear inequality
Algebra 2 09/12/16 EQ: How do I graph 2-variable linear inequality? HW: pg 128 # 1-33 odd Warm up Convert 5x – 3y = 9 into y=mx+ b and graph it
2
Graphing Inequalities
Solid lines - ≤ or ≥ Dotted lines - < or > Slope intercept form y > mx + b Graph equation by ignoring inequality sign Look at inequality (dotted vs. solid) Look at inequality (shade above or below) > above the line < below the line
3
Graphing Inequalities cont.
y ≤ -2x + 3
4
y > 3 2 x +4 y < - x +3
5
Standard Form Ax + By > C Find intercepts Solid vs dotted line
Pick a test point to check whether you graph above or below the line (DO NOT JUST LOOK AT THE INEQUALITY SIGN!!!) If statement is true shade that side If statement is false, shade opposite side
6
2x – 3y > 12 2x = 12 -3y =12 x = 6 y = -4 Test point 2(0) – 3(0) > 12 0 – 0 > 12 0 > 12 False – Shade opposite side of line
7
Practice - 4x + 3y ≤ 12 -4x=12 3y=12 x=-3 y=4
