What is the ideal form of government? Why? Can people be trusted to govern?

Step 1: Groups Actor Responsible for ensuring all group members understand the ideas and beliefs of historical figure Take time to learn the figures ideas so that they can then debate What the ideal form of government is from the figures perspective Historian Reads Biographical briefing aloud to group, looks in Encyclopedia, textbook, internet for additional information

Groups PR Responsible for ensuring all group members understand the ideas and beliefs of historical figure Introduction of Historical Figure Solicits ideas from group to develop name plate which includes: Name, Dates he/she lived, and appropriate visual symbol of the figures ideal form of government Investigative Reporter - Responsible for ensuring all group members understand the ideas and beliefs of other historical figure Prepares and asks probing questions of other panel members, to expose weakness in arguments

Step #2: Briefing Everyone Listens to Historian read briefing
Everyone discuss and answer questions on paper as they come up (each student has their own answer document)

Step 3: Preparation Historian- Finds information on figure
PR- Creates appealing Name plate with all requirements Investigative Reporter finds information about other historical figures and develops questions. Develops at least 2 questions for each figure Actor- Supports and gathers information from all member Everyone debriefs when complete

Step 4: Panel Discussion
PR- gives one minute bio briefing using name plate. Then sit behind your actor Question 1:Each Actor responds to opening question IR- Asks insightful questions Actors may respond to IR or other Actors and must involve themselves in debate

Step 5: Class Discussion/Notes
What were the different forms of government? Which thinkers believed most that people can be trusted to govern? Which thinkers believed most that people can not be trusted to govern? Whose ideas do you like best? Least? How did the time period that they each lived in effect their way of thinking?

If you were the president which one of the panel members would you choose to be chief political advisor. Why?
