Thank you! *Field Trip: 1/16/ Final deposit of $ due 2/1-2/2/2018 St. Augustine Field Trip ($295 per person) Commas Rules: 1.Commas separate words in a list of items of two or more. 2.Commas go after transition words. 3.Commas go between the day and year. 4.They also go after the year if there are more words after the year. 5.Commas go between the city and state. They also go after the state if there are words after the state. 6.Commas go before a conjunction (and, but, for, nor, or, so, and yet) Cute Video on commas: Academic Vocabulary Math Language Arts Social Studies Science Skills: We are starting Unit 5 this week, Divide by One-Digit Numbers.  We will be working on Lessons this week in Go Math.  The students will learn about estimating quotients, investigating and interpreting remainders, dividing tens, hundreds, and thousands, and estimating quotients using compatible numbers.  Any classwork that does not get completed will be sent home for homework and should be returned the following day.   Thinkcentral.com: Lessons 4.1 through 4.5 can be found on Thinkcentral.com.  You can log into the website using lastname.firstname and franklin1. You can view and print off the lessons, practice pages, and other information. Vocabulary: dividend, divisor, quotient remainder, divide, compatible numbers, multiple, distributive property, estimate, expanded form, partial quotient, place value, round iReady: We have been reviewing the data from iReady and very few students are meeting their weekly goal. Students need to take advantage of this wonderful tool that helps to prepare them not only for the FSA but also to develop and improve their math and reading skills. They must complete a minimum of 45 minutes with a minimum of 2 lessons in that time frame. Going forward this will be counted as a grade. Your child will have an iReady log in their math homework folder to record the date, lesson title, time, and pass/fail.  Extra lessons have been added to iReady that cover skills and strategies students should have mastered in previous grades but have not.    Assessments: Wednesday 12/20: Mid Chapter Test on lessons Text Structures: Chronology and Problem-Solution Describing the way an author organizes events, ideas, or information will help you better understand the text. Writers use text structures to organize their ideas. Chronology is a text structure that describes events in the order they occur. Words such as first, next, during, and finally signal this text structure, as do dates that tell when the events happened. A problem-solution text structure describes a problem first and then its solution. Words such as problem, solution, challenge, fixed, issue, and resolved signal a problem-solution structure. Grammar/Writing: Opinion/Argumentative -Tell how you feel about something or tell why you feel that way -state an opinion about the topic (pick a side) -support the opinion with 3 strong reasons -organize the information into an essay Approach, burrow, cease, destructive, drowsy, famished, hibernate, migrate, nestle, observe, prepare, reduce, severe, venture, forecast Vocab. Quiz & Packet due: 12/ Skills The student will learn the vocabulary and the economics behind creating a budget.
