1 Food Webs Day 1

2 Food Webs and Energy

3 In Pg.98 Concept of Definition Map
Category What is it? Properties How would you describe it? Comparison What is it similar to? Illustrations What are some examples?

4 Do it Now pg. 98 What type of model did you just do?
Physical, conceptual, Mathematical or computer?

5 Use section 2.2 in the textbook Unit 5: Energy in Ecosytems
Title Page Write the topic for the unit in the middle of the paper and box it in. 2. Divide the paper into 3 equal sections. 3. Put a subtopic/key word in each section. 4. Add an appropriate picture to each section(no stick figures). 5. Each section must have 3 different colors(black and white don’t count). Don’t use the same 3 colors for 2 different sections. 99 Use section 2.2 in the textbook Pg. 48 Unit 5: Energy in Ecosytems

6 Vocabulary and Understanding Main ideas Pg. 100
Staple tape or glue Understanding Main Ideas here along with Vocabulary.

7 Energy in Ecosystems Cornell Notes Pg 101

8 What are the Laws of Conservation of Matter and Energy?
Law of Conservation of Energy-Energy cannot be created or destroyed but it can be transferred or transformed. Law of Conservation of Matter-Matter(atoms) cannot be created or destroyed but it can be changed from one form into another.

9 What does food provide to organisms?
Matter The atoms necessary to build the macromolecules that make up living things(remember NOCH!) Energy Food molecules are broken down by the process of digestion. This releases energy that is stored in the chemical bonds.

10 What are Macromolecules?
Large(thousands of atoms) Includes: Carbohydrates-Made of C,H,O Proteins-Made of C,H,O,N Lipids-Made of C,H,O And…. Nucleic Acids

11 Do all living things need food?
Producers are organisms that do NOT get their energy and nutrients from food. They get their energy from radiant energy from sun. It is turned into chemical energy by the process of photosynthesis.

12 What happens during photosynthesis?
CO2 and H2Oare taken in by the producer. Glucose(C6H12O6) is assembled. Powered by the radiant energy from the sun. Glucose may be linked into larger molecules like starch

13

14 What is a consumer? Organisms that get their energy and matter from food. Take in the molecules stored in the bodies of other organisms. The energy and elements in these molecules are released in a series of chemical reactions (digestion). This is why the energy in food is called chemical energy.

16 T – Shirt pg. 103 T – shirt Activity Concept is Law of conservation.

17 Do it again pg. 98 Why are food webs important?

18 Out pg. 98 This tree started as a little seed. What provided most of the mass that made the tree grow so large?
