Year 7 English Homework Tasks | Term: Spring 2 | Topic: Modern Text: Room 13 by Robert Swindells
Instructions: Each week you will complete one piece of homework. This will be either one of the activities below, or revision from your Knowledge Organiser for a test in class. Your teacher will let you know what homework activity you’re doing and when this should be handed in.

You will need to use a computer or a library to help you find the information needed to complete this task.
Homework activity:
Answer the four questions below in as much detail as possible. Make sure that you have explained your answer by supporting your response with references from the text.
Why do you think that Robert Swindells chose to write the book in the third person?
How successful is Robert Swindells in creating tension in the novel?
How important do you think that the character of Sal Haggerlythe is to the development of the plot?
Who is your favourite character in the text so far and why?
In Chapter 1, the reader is introduced to the character Fliss who is having a nightmare about going on a school trip to Whitby.
Write 3 paragraphs about a dream or a nightmare that you have had: you can make this up if you can’t remember your dreams!
Try to include:
Adverbs to start your sentences;
A simile;
Personification;
A single word sentence.
In Chapter 5, the characters arrive in Whitby. Before you read this section, research the following:
Whitby;
Fylingdales;
North Yorkshire;
Staithes;
Captain Cook;
Dracula.
Aim to write 1-2 sentences for each topic.
Don’t forget to check your spellings and word choice by using your Gem when completing your homework.
