The Journey of Learning
In P3 and P3/2 Wait until everyone is settled. Take a seat. 17/04/2019
2
Introduction The purpose of the discussion:
1. To learn more about your child’s education this year. 2. To learn more about school/class procedures. 3. To ask any questions that you might have – but please none about your child as this is not a parent/teacher meeting. Purpose of this meeting is to explain more to you about what and how we will be learning this year in P3 and P2. We will look at specific subjects, homework and other matters that hopefully will give you a clearer picture of how the class will be running from day to day 17/04/2019

A Curriculum for Excellence
Continuing with ACE. All planning refers to four capacities and the experiences and outcomes. Core skills of numeracy, literacy and health and well being the heart of the curriculum with all other subjects integrated in a meaningful way. Capacities focus on skills for lifelong learning and work 17/04/2019

Get Set! Independence Stimulating
Developing collaborative and communicative skills Allowing personalisation and choice of activity Planned by us to ensure weekly variety of tasks which will stimulate and prepare learners for the day ahead. Aim to get them into class quickly, motivated to get organised and ready for the day ahead. Independence promoted through self check-in etc. 17/04/2019

Numeracy and Literacy Numeracy: Literacy: Focus on skills
A variety of resources Oral; problem solving; whole class; groups Literacy: Reading Writing Talking and listening Maths – we will be focussing on the ACE outcomes (show copy). We will be searching a range of resources to select the best and most appropriate for needs of the class. Not only ensures they will have best resources to teach each skill, but will also help them in that they will be more motivated (faced with variety) and will develop ability to switch from one resource to another successfully, a useful skill for lifelong learning. We will do interactive/oral work each lesson – often as whole class (all benefit as younger ones exposed to more knowledge and older ones able to revisit and revise). Weekly focus on problem solving skills – again for lifelong learning. As mentioned above, where natural links with topics occur, maths will be incorporated, ensuring meaningful learning. This will also be the case with language. Language – Reading this term = literature circles are main feature but in class on weekly basis other skills will be taught using a variety of resources i.e. reading for information, awareness of genre and writer’s craft. Class novel – child will have a chance to read a chapter at home them re-read to class following day. Reading a variety of texts – novels, newspapers, comics, magazines, films, adverts = texts come in all shapes and sizes!!! Reading skills will be taught through a selection of these texts each year to ensure pupils exposed to all that reading for understanding, enjoyment and information means. Writing: majority of lessons are linked to topics, whilst ensuring that variety of writing skills taught i.e. personal, functional, imaginative. Again, resources here for you to look at are chosen to match the needs of the pupils and the skill being taught. Grammar, presentation, handwriting, spelling all playing key role in successful writing. BIG DIFFERENCE THIS YEAR IS THAT WE WILL TEAM TEACH IN WRITING = MRS VINCE AND I – FURTHER ENSURANCE THAT NEEDS OF INDIVIDUALS WILL BE MET! Talking and listening will permeate all lessons – discussions, presentations etc. – developing confidence and respect for one another. 17/04/2019

TOPICS! ICT ICT These are main topics but there are also termly whole school focuses which will be explored through ICE e.g. International Educ., Enterprise, Scotland, Health and Fitness Topics chosen to offer breadth and balance of subjects and were chosen to ensure that pupils would cover topics that were very different to previous years and would stimulate them. This year we have Auld Reekie, Food Glorious Food, Toys and Games, Topical Newsa aned The Owl who was afraid of the dark. ICT in class used everyday. PPT presentations (prezi), creating posters etc. maths/language games, filming, podcasting, ing, DS, Wii, – a natural part of every area of the curriculum and one which is incredibly motivating for all pupils. 17/04/2019

Please check the weekly sheet handed out on Wednesday
Home learning Please check the weekly sheet handed out on Wednesday Spelling Reading Maths At least one other activity Good to get in to habit of checking home learning sheets on Wednesdays. Reading records or share it jotters are a great way for parent and teacher to communicate. Please feel free to write in the record if there is anything you want to bring to our attention and brief your child to pass on the message. We also ask that you check and sign homework each week. Homework – All pupils will have written homework timetable in back of diaries and this will be followed for foreseeable future. Spelling 4 times a week. Reading = lit circles twice (one task and two lots of reading). Over and above this and to maximise reading ability and reading for enjoyment we would ask that you encourage your children to read novels. This is where reading for enjoyment will come to forefront. Maths once a week and, like all homework, will either be to consolidate or enhance learning. Again, practising tables will be of huge benefit to all pupils so this should be encouraged also. Will aim to have a variety of format e.g. written, interactive and ICT Over and above, there will be one other piece of homework set weekly and this will wary – depending on what we are doing topic wise. It may be related to Environmental Studies, or science, Expressive Arts or RME. 17/04/2019

Assessment Marking AifL Diagnostic Tests Profile Jotters 17/04/2019
Positive reinforcement is reflected in marking work where we will use 2 stars and a wish. We will also develop personal reflection through self and peer assessment. In the same way that we as teachers assess and evaluate the teaching and learning that takes place in class, pupils will be encouraged to self and peer assess in order to become reflective learners – such an important skill which increases confidence and increases independence and responsibility. Now fully engaged with new curriculum and this includes with regards to assessment. – make, say, write, do, Professional dialogue Quality assurance calendar 17/04/2019
