Background : Decent Work Decade for A-P region - economies are growing but Decent Work? ‘Crisis’ exposed many vulnerabilities – export dependency, low & declining real wages for majority, inequalities & insufficient social protection for workers. Major challenges: Underemployment, precarious work, inadequate social protection, lack of respect for FoA & right to collective bargaining & growing informal economy – a clear indication that the economies are not creating decent work Asian Govts looking towards Exports & FDI as a major driver of growth and jobs!

If economic growth has to benefit all…
What lessons can we learn from the ‘Global Economic Crisis’ and how countries are dealing with it? What can trade unions do at national level to promote labour standards and decent work? What needs to be done to balance export led model with wages & standards led development path? FDI & MNEs influence also labour relation policies: What are unions doing to organize and influence MNE behaviour?

Thru exchange of experiences & mutual collaborative learning this course seeks to - promote understanding on development challenges facing Asian countries and ILO’s Decent Work agenda & role of trade unions; Introduce Actrav Training methodology titled "Decent Work Cube" for trade union training for promoting decent work; Build knowledge on factors affecting wages, productivity & Decent Work & strengthen national trade union capacities to take informed actions through social dialogue and negotiations to decent work for all workers;

Main Outputs Expected Each participant will prepare a follow up work plan to strengthen his unions work in support of decent work, ex. promoting FoA and organizing, actions to promote ratification and implementation of the core labour standards social protection & promotion of policy on MNEs, etc This work plan will be used for evaluation purposes and future follow up activities. Guidelines for preparing follow up proposal will be given

Daily Report in the morning of each day: Each participant will inform the group of one or two key ideas that they learnt or found useful from the previous day’s sessions. Come up with ideas for follow up work plan
