3. Our Agency Mission
Our mission is to protect the citizens of Washington, their property and the environment on a 24-hour basis and to provide trained military units in support of civil authorities for domestic emergencies and in support of federal combatant commanders for national defense and homeland security missions.
The Washington State Military Department has several major operational divisions:
Emergency Management
Army National Guard
Air National Guard
State Guard
Washington Youth Academy
State & Federal Support Services (Communications, Finance, HRO, IGAP, IT)
These divisions utilize state and federal resources to perform homeland defense, homeland security, and emergency mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery activities. The Department has a strong culture of service.

On Premise SharePoint infrastructure begins to fail
Mar. 2016
Agency began subscription based software license model to reduce costs on Microsoft Office Software licenses
May 2016
Agency begins testing and migration into SharePoint Online environment in Single Tenant
Aug. 2017
Agency leaves Shared Services for & WASERV Vault and begins migration into WaTech Shared Tenant environment for Exchange Online, SharePoint and OneDrive for Business
Nov. 2018
Agency completes migration to Shared Tenant environment

9. Our Cloud Journey Lessons Learned1
Ongoing training is critical for IT and all other agency staff to insure adoption and overall staff satisfaction. Change is hard for some and they will be the most vocal. 2
The State Governmental Network is sufficient for many State agencies however our agency mission demands exceed what it is capable of. 3
Cost savings on software licenses have been reduced however we continue to pay as if we are still in the Shared environment. 4
Records Management & Security staff must be embedded within all project planning and implementation. 5
Legacy Office applications must be uninstalled prior to the installation of Office 365 applications.

10. The Road Ahead for our Cloud Efforts
Strengthen
Strengthen partnership with WaTech to improve our Shared Tenant presence and technology resiliency.
Continue
Continue to expand upon public & private sector partnerships to diversify our Cloud efforts including connectivity.
Plan
Plan for new Cloud based functionality such as Telephony & Audio Conferencing to maximize infrastructure survivability
Increase
Increase IT & staff training, resources, and support to enhance our capability and to maximize utilization of Cloud services.
Forward
Move forward with expanding our Cloud based infrastructure as fast as our staff, customers and WaTech can handle!
