2 Welcome to SAT-10 Parent Night

3 Introduction to the SAT-10
The Stanford Achievement Test measures students’ achievement in Reading, Language Arts and Mathematics. This Tenth Edition of the Stanford Test provides updated content that reflects the national curriculum and new educational trends.

4 How does data from SAT 10 support learning ?
Administrators: obtain data to document and monitor the progress of all children according to federal mandates. Teachers: receive specific information to support instructional planning for individual students and the class. Parents: better understand their child’s achievement level and get direction for home involvement.

5 Who takes the SAT test? The SAT-10 is given to students in Kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2 in the district.

6 What is the format of the test?
Testing will take place among two days- one reading session and one math session. It consists of multiple choice questions. All students K-2 will have practice test materials.

7 Test administration Teachers read directions verbatim once.
There is a Reading Comprehension subtest. Students read short sentences or passages on their own. Students are allowed to underline or circle key words in the questions. Math questions can only be read once.

8 Can a student fail the SAT?
No, students do not pass or fail the test. Test results show what they have learned and what they can do.

9 Scoring Scores are reported as percentile ranks ranging from 1-99.
Scores are also reported in stanines, ranging from a low of 1 to a high of 9. The national average is the 50th percentile.

Attendance is CRUCIAL!

12 How to help your child be prepared for the test?
Include minutes of reading in your child’s daily schedule. Ask questions about the story. Ask where in the story they found the answer.

13 How to help your child be prepared for the test?
Make sure your child completes Home Learning packets daily. Let your child work independently. Your job is to review and check it.

18 Test Taking Strategies
Listen carefully to the directions the teacher gives and follow them exactly. Make sure to carefully read each question. Reread if necessary. Do not spend too much time on a difficult question. Come back to it later.

19 Test Taking Strategies cont’d
Eliminate the answers you know are wrong, then select the best answer. Do NOT leave ANY questions unanswered. Unanswered questions are marked wrong. Go back and look for the answer.

In math, make sure to show all your work Do not do the work in your head. If finished before time is up, go back and check each answer. Fill in the answer bubble completely. Do not leave any stray marks.

21 What to do the night before the test ? Make sure your child:
Goes to bed early and gets a good night’s sleep.

22 What to do on the test days?
Make sure your child: Eats a healthy breakfast. Arrives to school on time. Those students who are late will not be able to participate in a session that has started.
