2 Effective Delegation Delegation, in this context, means giving others in your group a certain degree of responsibility that is not inherent, or specific, to their role in the group. Delegation can foster teamwork, empowerment and skill growth. Steps to Delegation Example 1. Have a Plan What do you want to person to do? Will this help build their skills? 2. Define Objective Can you clearly explain what you want accomplished? Can you clearly explain the standard of work you expect? Can you give a clear sense of this component's importance in the overall task? 3. Specify some Possible Resources Should your peer use the internet for research? What websites would you recommend? Are there any your peers should stay away from? 4. Ask, Ask, Ask Is your peer comfortable with this task? Do others feel confident in their roles? **Check in with all your peers frequently to ensure everyone is on the same page 5. Problem Solving Do you want your peer to make decision or ask for group feedback before proceeding? **When problems arise, have a whole group conversation. Delegating/Planning/Time Management?

3 Group Decision Making Identify decision to be made. What is your group trying to decide on? Make a list of information and alternatives to discuss with your group. Analyze the issue under discussion. Examine the data or resources you have and identify what other information you need. Establish criteria. Identify the conditions that would determine whether a chosen solution is successful. You may want to use the Prioritization card from the Resource Board. Brainstorm potential solutions. Collect as many ideas a possible. Evaluate options and select the best one. What are the pros/cons of each option? Which option is the most realistic? Which option is the most likely to solve the problem in the long term? You may want this to be a compromise or consensus, check out the Resource Board. Implement the solution. Identify resources necessary to implement the decision. Take action and decide: What should be done? How? By whom? By when? In what order? Teamwork – planning/deligating
