Purpose: The Agency’s purpose is to transform and grow a globally respected Australian space industry that lifts the broader economy, inspires and improves the lives of Australians – underpinned by strong international and national engagement.
Responsibilities:
Providing national policy and strategic advice on the civil space sector
Coordinating Australia’s domestic civil space sector activities
Supporting the growth of Australia’s space industry and the use of space across the broader economy
Leading international civil space engagement
Administering space activities legislation and delivering on our international obligations
Inspiring the Australian community and the next generation of space entrepreneurs
Current Priorities:
Communications technologies, services and ground stations
Space Situational Awareness and debris monitoring
Positioning, Navigation and Timing infrastructure
Earth observation from space data and services
Robotics and automation for remote asset management
Research and Development and leapfrog technologies

Current state:
Australia makes up 0.9% of the US$345 Billion global space economy
$3-4 Billion nationally, 10,000 jobs
Future state:
Grow Australian space economy to $10-12 billion per year by 2030
Add 10,000-20,000 new skilled jobs career pathways
National alignment to priority areas
International markets unlocked
One door one voice
Australia has a highly skilled workforce and excellent R&D capabilities
First 100 days of the Australian Space Agency:
Active International Engagement – MoUs signed with CNES, UK Space Agency and Canadian Space Agency
Strong collaboration with other Australian Agencies and engagement with States and Territories
Building connections with industry – Statements of Strategic Intent signed with Airbus and Sitael
