1 Community Advisory Boards
Voice of the communities Community Advisory Boards for the Kaiser Permanente Research Bank (KPRB) represent the voice of the communities Kaiser Permanente serves. The CABs provide a diversity of input on a wide range of issues related to the KPRB’s role in public health. Within all regions, KP members and non-members are represented, as are the voices of advocacy, environmental and community-based health groups, community leaders, social safety-net providers, labor and public health organizations, academic institutions, and others. Composition and Purpose of CABs 16 members on the National CAB = 2 community representatives from all 8 KP regions ~ members on the Regional CABs = representatives from KP Southern CA, KP Mid-Atlantic States (KP Northern CA has a legacy CAB on hold) NCAB provide input on: strategic planning such as national recruitment strategy, including underrepresented minorities in research, education and informed consent, to name a few. RCABs provide input on raising awareness of the KPRB at a regional level, raise awareness about community issues, conduit for raising local concerns to the program leadership and NCAB. Identification and Recruitment Identification methods Outline constituencies within your region to be represented Identify community partners through Community Benefit Department Consult local community organizations for referrals Use existing patient or member advisory boards Recruitment Screening application (available upon request) Virtual conversation/interview In person or virtual interviews Board member orientation: Mutually developed onboarding process led by the CAB Scientific Lead and Coordinator Maintaining long term engagement requires nurturing the partner relationship, but that alone won’t do it. The partners also need to know their work is meaningful, and making a difference.
