Quon Quon brought suit against the Ontario, CA PD in the US District Court for the Central District of California Jury trial concluded that the audit of text communications was to determine the efficacy of the character limits and thus did not violate Jeff Quon’s Fourth Amendment Rights

21 City of Ontario v. Quon Quon appealed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit Court found that even though the search was conducted for a legitimate work-related rationale it was not reasonable in scope and found for Quon.

22 City of Ontario v. Quon City of Ontario, CA, et al v. Jeff Quon et al was appealed to the Supreme Court of the United States. Argued April 19, 2010 Decided June 17, Found that the search was reasonable and the petitioners did not violate the respondents’ Fourth Amendment rights.
