Power Power like velocity and acceleration is a rate
Rate means divided by time Power is defined as the amount of work done in a given time period It can also be the energy transferred in a given time period

Power P = W/t t = time (measured in seconds)
W = work (measured in Joules) P = power (measured in Watts)

Power The Watt is defined as one Joule of work done (or energy transferred) in one second Another common measurement for power is the horsepower (hp) 1 hp = 746 W For physics power must be in Watts

Example 11 How much power does a person produce when lifting a 50 kg package to a height of 2 m in 5 s?

Example 12 How long will it take a 75 kg rock climber to reach a height of 50 m if he can produce an average power output of 100 W?
